As you may know, in search and rescue, the only constant is that nothing is ever the same. The person needing rescue and the rescuers alike continually face challenges in topography, weather, alpine and sub-alpine environments, shear face to low angle rock, snow and ice, lost or injured subjects, the potential to search for more than one subject - in different locations - at the same time, etc. As potential rescuers, whether volunteer SAR members or employees of a large corporation, each of us must personally and honestly scrutinize our own skill level and that of each team member. Regardless of location, we must know that each of us can handle rescue situations with confidence. An actual emergency is not the time for skills-assessment. Do it now, for your own safety, for SAR members and for your work associates. |
